The dashboard is the first screen you see after signing in. It turns the entries in your books into key figures and charts, so you can check cash, dues, profit and tax at a glance without running a report.
Open the dashboard
Click Dashboard in the sidebar, or the house icon at the start of the breadcrumb in the top bar. The dashboard has eight tabs: Overview, Profitability, Liquidity, Efficiency, Taxation, Growth & Performance, Risk & Compliance and SmartInsights. Switch between them with the tabs at the top of the page, or with the same names in the sidebar's Dashboard panel.
This article covers the Overview tab and the controls shared by all tabs. For the other tabs, see Reading the dashboard's analysis tabs.
Choose the date range
The date picker at the top right sets the period for the Overview tab. It starts at This Financial Year (April to March).
- Click the date picker.
- Choose a range: Today, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, This Week (to Date), This Month (to Date), This Quarter (to Date), Last Financial Year, This Financial Year or All Time.
- For any other period, choose Custom Date, pick the start and end dates and click Apply.
SmartLedger remembers your choice in this browser. The other tabs don't use the date picker. They always show the current financial year.
Export a PDF report
- Click Export Report.
- Choose Current tab PDF for the tab you're on, or All tabs PDF for every tab except SmartInsights.
- Check the PDF Preview and click Download PDF.
The report shows the company name and the date range. Export isn't available on the SmartInsights tab.
The Overview tab
Eight tiles across the top give the headline figures. Hover over the info icon next to a tile's name to see what it measures.

- Total Payables — what you owe suppliers, with the change from last month.

Below the tiles:

- Top Expenses — where most of your money is going.
- All Receivables and All Payables — what's current and what's overdue.
- Projects — your projects and their clients. Click a project or client name to open it.
- Bank / Cash Balances — the current balance of each bank and cash account. These balances are always as of today, whatever date range you choose.
Tips
- In the first 40 days of a new financial year, This Financial Year runs from 1 April of the previous year to today, so the dashboard isn't empty while the new year's entries come in.
- The figures come from your books. If a number looks wrong, check that invoices, payments and bank entries are recorded and reconciled.
- The dashboard shows the company you're working in. Switch company from the top bar to see another one.
