The Trial Balance lists the closing balance of every ledger account as on a date, in a debit or a credit column. Use it to confirm the books are in balance before you finalise accounts or hand them to your CA.
Open the trial balance
- Click Reports in the sidebar.
- Choose Financial, then Trial Balance.
Choose the date
The trial balance opens on This Financial Year. Click the date picker and choose another period, or Custom Date to set your own and click Apply.
Balances are worked out as on the last day of the period, including your opening balances. The start of the period doesn't change them. Accounts with a zero balance are left out.
Read the trial balance
The cards at the top show:
- Ledger Accounts — how many accounts are listed.
- Total Debit and Total Credit — the column totals.
- Difference — the gap between the two, marked Balanced or Out of balance.
The table lists each Account with its Group (Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income or Expenses) and its balance, with a Total row at the end.
Filter and change the view
- Group — starts on All groups. Tick one or more groups to list only those accounts. The Total row is hidden while a group filter is on, so a part list is never read as the full total.
- View — Debit / Credit columns shows two amount columns. Net balances shows one Balance (₹) column with each amount marked Dr or Cr.
- Search — type part of an account name or amount to narrow the list.
- Manage columns — the columns icon hides or shows columns. Reset brings them all back.
Export the trial balance
- Click the export icon at the end of the filter bar.
- Choose Download as CSV or Export As PDF.
The file lists every group with debit and credit columns, ending with the total and the difference. It follows the date and the search, but not the Group or View choice.
Tips
- Choose Custom Date and end the range on 31 March to check the books as on your year end.
- To see the entries behind a balance, open that account in the General Ledger report.
