SmartLedger decides which obligations each client owes from the facts on the client's compliance profile. Answer the questions once and obligations are raised, re-checked and dated for you. A missing answer never rules an obligation out; it stays parked as undecided until the fact is recorded.

              Answer a client's profile questions

              1. Go to Compliance → Clients.
              2. Click a client. To list only the profiles with missing facts, click Incomplete only first.
              3. On the Questions tab, choose the year under Answers apply to.
              4. Answer the questions in each section, using Next and Back to move between sections.
              5. Click Save answers.

Saving re-checks the client's obligations straight away and tells you how many now have a verdict.

              The sections are:

              • The basics — entity type, date of incorporation or registration, previous-year turnover and payroll headcount. These four answers get a client onto the obligations list.
              • GST returns — how the client is registered under GST, whether it has opted into QRMP, and its state category (X or Y). These need a GSTIN on record for the client.
              • GST events — cancelled registration, exports or SEZ supplies, and job work.
              • Income tax and audit — tax audit under section 44AB, estimated tax liability, international or specified domestic transactions, first financial year and monthly rent paid.
              • Company law — listed shares, demat shares, significant beneficial owner and CSR.

Fill answers from the GST portal

              1. On the client's profile, click Fetch from Sandbox.
              2. Review the Answers found. Any that differ from what's recorded are flagged.
              3. Click Fill in to copy them into the questions.
              4. Check the answers and click Save answers.

The button works only when the client has a GSTIN on record.

              Correct an earlier period

The All facts and history tab lists every fact with its values by period. Use it to correct a past period, or to record a fact that changed part-way through a year. Click Save changes when you're done.

              Read the Clients list

Compliance → Clients shows each client's Registrations, Compliance score, Profile complete, Facts missing, Undecided and Obligations, so you can see which clients to chase for answers.

              Set firm-wide compliance settings

Compliance → Settings applies to every client. Changing it needs compliance management access.

              • Financial year — the Working financial year the obligations list opens on.
              • Internal deadlines — a Default buffer (days) before each statutory date, optional buffers per category, and whether to Skip weekends when counting back or Skip the firm's holidays.
              • Workflow defaults — the Work board for new tasks and its Lane, and Require review before an obligation can be filed.

Click Save settings. Saving recalculates internal due dates on open obligations; dates set by hand on a single obligation are left alone.
