Compliance shows the statutory obligations your clients owe across GST, TDS / TCS, income tax, ROC / MCA, PF / ESI and professional tax, in one firm-wide view. SmartLedger's rules engine works out which obligations apply to each client from its registrations and profile answers, so the list stays in step with your clients' facts.

              Before you start

              • Compliance is included in every CA plan.
              • Obligations appear once a client has registrations and its profile questions are answered. See Setting up client compliance profiles and settings.

              Read the compliance overview

Compliance → Overview shows what needs attention across the firm.

              • Firm compliance score — the share of work filed on or before its statutory date, weighted by severity. Click it to see how it's worked out.
              • Tracked, Overdue, Due this week and Waiting on clients — counts of obligations. Waiting on clients means the obligation is parked until the client answers a profile question.
              • Where the work stands and Who is holding what — work by status and by preparer or reviewer.
              • Attention queue — obligations that need action first. Click one to open it.
              • Next actions — Ask clients for facts, Open calendar, and a button to review conflicts when there are any.

              Find obligations

Compliance → Obligations lists every obligation across the firm. By default GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9 come first, since SmartLedger files and reconciles those returns for you. The financial year shown at the top is set in compliance settings.

              • Search by entity, form or registration, or pick one or more clients under Client.
              • Narrow the list with Overdue, This month, Not started, Conflicts or Filed, not signed off.
              • Use Showing to switch between Obligations we owe, Ruled out by a rule, Waiting on client facts and Every verdict.
              • Click Filters for Category, Status, Severity, Applicability source, a due-date range and GST registered.

To reuse a set of filters, click Save view, name it and choose whether it's visible to Only me or Everyone in the firm.

To act on several obligations at once, tick them and click Assign preparer or Move to review.

Your own changes show straight away. If a colleague has answered profile questions or changed settings elsewhere, click the refresh icon and then Refresh now.

              Use the compliance calendar

Compliance → Calendar shows obligations and your firm's own tasks by due date.

              • Switch between Week, Month and List, or click Today.
              • Filter by type under My calendars, by account manager under Team, or by client under Companies.
              • Search tasks, clients or owners.

To add a task of your own:

              1. Click New Task.
              2. Enter the Task Name and choose a Task Type.
              3. Choose the Client company, Due Date and Account manager.
              4. Optionally set the Priority, Amount (optional) and Notes.
              5. Click Save Task.

              What happens next

              • Open an obligation to assign it, prepare it and record the filing. See Working a compliance obligation from preparation to filing.
